We made it to Australia after the 23 hours of flying and got a warm 37 degree welcome. We immediately suited up in our summer gear and Justin, a friend of Mike's we will be staying with in Melbourne, and his girlfriend Emma were there to pick us up and introduce us to the great down under. We had our first try of Vegemite and hated it then took the tram into town where we walked around the harbour, grabbed a bite to eat (Mike ordered BBQ Roo, kanga that is....very yummy), and checked out the flashy casino. With a good nights rest under our belt, Justin, Mike, and I headed to the Old Melbourne Gaol (pronounced jail) to check out the historic slammer that opened in 1845. We saw various cells, torture methods they used and the hanging apperatice entice that was used to execute prisoners. Ned Kelly was a prisoner of The Melbourne Gaol until we was hung for his wrong-doings and we got to read about him and his gang, as well as see pictures of him and a fellow partner in crime. Next we trammed down to St.Kilda to lay on the beach which was littered with tons of Aussies. Mike and I love Melbourne so far and are impressed with how nice and tolerable the weather is. It's still nice and hot, but not sticky and uncomfortable. Justin and his roomies are great and had out room well air conditioned for our stay. Thirty days will fly by....but until next time.
